Rent bikes
Biking is a fun way to discover the city. Why not pack a lunch and bike along the river on the Promenade Samuel de Champlain or go the opposite way and follow the bike trail between Quebec city and the Montmorency falls?
Plan a spray park outing
We might not have a lot of public outdoor pool, but we do have spray parks. On a hot summer day, your children will be more than thrilled to go run through those water fountains in the middle of the city. There are splash parks at the city hall, at the Place des Canotiers (in the lower town), on the Plains of Abraham (in front of the Fine Arts Museum) and on the Promenade Samuel de Champlain.
Go to the farmer’s market
Le Grand Marché de Québec is about 15 minutes drive from the old town and is accessible by car, bus or shuttle. It is a great place to discover local products such as cheese, vegetables and fruits, flowers, doughnuts and much more. There is a micro brewery with a terrace and a café as well. Outside, there is an enormous playground with water fountains next to it. It is a must go place in Quebec for children
Take the ferry across the river to Levis
The ride is short but worth the view on Quebec city and the castle. During the winter, the children will be amazed to see the big blocks of ice that go down the river very fast. During summer, we recommend you to spent some time at the Quai Paquet in Levis, you will find water fountains where kids can run through.
Walk on Terrasse Dufferin
This long boardwalk offers an amazing view on the river the Quartier Petit Champlain and the iconic Chateau Frontenac.
During summer you will often find street performers and artists there.
During winter you can treat your children with a toboggan ride that overlooks the St. Lawrence river.

The best spot to picnic with your family is in front of the fine arts museum. You will find there a small playground, a lot of space to run and a few tables to sit and eat at.

Le Parc de la Chute Montmorency, Located only 15 minutes' drive from the city center, It is an historical site dominated by a 83 meters high waterfall (higher that the Niagara waterfall) as well as a public park. You can decide to arrive at the top of the cliff and walk in the park, going across the suspended bridge, or you can park at the bottom and either take the gondola to get up or climb the 487 stairs!

If you are planning to visit during winter, you should go ice skating with your family. Even if you didn’t bring your ice skates, don’t worry you can rent some. There is an ice skating rink at Place d’Youville, right outside St.John’s Gate and another one on the Plaines d’Abraham.
