Farmer’s Market

160 Quai St-André

In 1640, on Place Royale, the first "Market Place" emerged. At that time, there was already a wide range of products (wood, wheat, vegetables, grasses, poultry, butter, eggs ...) which aroused the envy of vendors, farmers, fishermen and merchants of the time. In 1900, four major markets have left a cultural footprint significantly in Quebec City, including the creation in 1938 of the Horticultural Trades Union of Quebec. In 1987 the Quebec Horticultural Trades Union restructures to form Cooperative Horticultural Trades Quebec and moves on the current site of the Marché du Vieux-Port de Québec. Originally occupied on a seasonal basis, the market reached a turning point in 1997, gradually expanding its operations on an annual basis.
